Melbourne Marathon Festival

Melbourne Marathon Festival.

In Melbourne, the sun has finally come out and it looks like it may be here to stay! With the Melbourne Marathon Festival finished up yesterday, today is a full clinic of injuries from the weekend race. With an empathetic ear from our resident competitor and Podiatrist, Christopher Wevling. The day has been many interesting cases from blister care and soft tissue injuries to dry needling sessions to help with those tight bands of muscles.

The race yesterday started in ideal conditions with a slight breeze and nice temperature helping many competitors to a healthy PB. The sun shone through towards the end of the race and things started to get very sweaty, particularly for those 4 hour + marathoners. The draw card of the Melbourne Marathon festival is the finishing lap of the MCG which participants of the majority of distances being able to complete, the feeling of getting into the MCG after a long race makes the last kilometre or so a lot more pleasant than the classic running towards a generic finishing line.

Running injury free comes down to many factors including your preparation training, nutrition, pre-hab, flexibility, endurance and fatigue. Whether your goal is to run a marathon or compete in the 3km walk gradually increasing your training load is important.
