INGROWN TOE NAILS AND CHILDREN

Ingrown toe nails can occur at any age but frequently occur in childhood. The technical term for ingrown toe nails is onychocryptosis. At The Foot Clinic we aim to treat ingrown toe nails as painlessly as possible.

Ingrown toe nails can occur due to the following factors:
• The shape of your child's nail may be involuted or curved in nail shape
• Poor nail cutting technique
• Tight occlusive footwear
• Flat feet and pushing off through the inside of the toe

At your initial appointment the ingrown toe nail will be assessed and can often be treated painlessly by removing the offending nail spike. In some cases nail surgery my be warranted which is where the nail edge is removed via a minor surgery. Your Podiatrist will discuss treatment options with you at your initial appointment.
