WHAT DOES A PAEDIATRIC FOOT ASSESSMENT INVOLVE?

Your Podiatrist will take a thorough medical history and check that developmental milestones are being met. Your child’s initial assessment will involve:

• Gait analysis which involves assessing your child’s foot posture while walking.
• Joint flexibility testing which involves assessing for hypermobility.
• Screening for ankle instability.
• Assessing balance and coordination
• Foot and leg muscle strength testing.
• Biomechanical assessment which involves checking for any abnormalities in the way the foot and leg functions through out the gait cycle.

• Footwear assessment and recommendation
• Foot or ankle pain
• Knee pain
• Hip or lower back pain that may be related to their foot posture
• Clumsiness
• Tripping
• Difficulty keeping up with other children• If you notice that your child’s feet are holding them back in any way!

WHEN DOES MY CHILD NEED TO BE ASSESSED?

Ideally we recommend an assessment if your child is experiencing any of the following symptoms.

• Foot or ankle pain
• Knee pain
• Hip or lower back pain that may be related to their foot posture
• Clumsiness

• Difficulty keeping up with other children
