Spring racing has long been as much about the fashion as the actual races, each year at the clinic we see patients on a Monday morning on crutches after a soft, damp grassy surface took victory over a pair of 6 inch heels. Often resulting in a decent ankle sprain, resulting in torn ligaments, fractures and ultimately pain! Treating this patients usually requires a period of rest or what Podiatrists call “offloading” this can include CAM boots, crutches, plaster or possibly something more creative.
Spring doesn’t have to be a time for injury, with the choice of appropriate shoes and a bit of understanding around Ankle sprains. So this year when you’re at the races, remember that prevention is always better than the treatment!
